Melvin Joe “Slop” Baugh

Melvin Joe “Slop” Baugh was born in Galveston, TX on July 18, 1953.  He went to be with the Lord Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the age of 64 at Mainland Medical Center.

Melvin attends public schools in La Marque.  Melvin was a landscaper and painter.  He also worked various odd jobs.

Melvin was very family-oriented and loved jazz music.

Melvin was baptized at an early age at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Galveston, TX.  He later joined Truth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Johnny Grimes.

Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Lee Baugh; father, Russel Lee Baugh, Sr.and brother, Russel Lee Baugh, Jr.

Left to cherish Melvin’s memories are:  son, Melvin Opusunju of Fairfield, CA; sister, Gwendolyn Joyce Baugh of Texas City, TX; brother, Kenneth Turner of Seattle, WA; goddaughter, Wendy Roberts of La Marque, TX; godson, Tyrell Lee of La Marque, TX; grandkids, Martrayvion and Alyrick Amen of Pasadena, TX along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

A public visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:00 am followed by a memorial service to celebrate his life at noon.  Both events will take place at Bay Area Funeral Directors • 5410 FM 1765 (off State Highway 3) • Texas City, TX 77591.  409-933-4300.  All memorials may be sent to the funeral home.
