Michael Wayne Mayo

On October 27, 1957, Michael Wayne Mayo was born to Williemae Johnson Mayo and Jacob Mayo, Sr. in Opelousas, Louisiana.  He was reared in Opelousas and graduated from Opelousas Senior High School.  He matriculated at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana earning a Bachelor’s degree.  He also did graduate studies at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in Computer Science.

God has a record of Michael’s deeds from the first day he opened his life’s book.  Being born in a Christian family, he was baptized before the age of one month at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas.  Michael accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age.  Michael was blessed with good parents that instilled in him good values and they gave him a strong spiritual foundation.

Michael departed this life on January 14, 2019.  Michael was preceded in death by his beautiful grandparents, Lucille and Wesley Mayo, Sr. and Mary & Moses Johnson; his godparents, Reverend Samuel M. Johnson and Myrtle M. Johnson; his loving parents, Jacob and Williemae Mayo and a clever nephew, Kevin Tywuan Gordon.

Michael leaves to cherish his memory:  a companion, Ursula Rosette and her children, Hakeem and Raven of Channelview, Texas; five siblings, Irma Mayo Gordon of Sweeny, Texas, Jacob Mayo, Jr. (Alma) of Houston, Texas, Linda Mayo Holmes of Houston, Samuel Mayo (Joan) of Texas City, Texas and Edward Ray Mayo of Opelousas; three nieces, Favel Fernandos, Willena Lee (Donald) and Bridget Duckworth; two nephews, Jacob Mayo III (Erin) and Jamarcus P. Joseph (Deverall); one uncle, Horace Smith, Sr. of Opelousas and a host of other relatives, cousins and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the chapel of Bay Area Funeral Directors located at 5410 FM 1765 in Texas City, TX 77591.  409-933-4300.  The visitation will open at 11:00 a.m. and the homegoing ceremony will commence at 12:00 p.m.  All memorials may be sent to the funeral home.
