Apostle Odis Lee Young, affectionately known as “Shage” was born to Bessie Arcadia and Johnnie Lee Young, Sr. on July 4, 1950 in Delhi, Louisiana.
At a few months old, his family moved to Texas City where he was raised. Odis attended Booker T. Washington High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving in the military, Odis was employed with Brown and Root, Todd’s Shipyard and Commonwealth Insurance Company.
In the spring of 1966, Odis met the love of his life Sandra, and the two were married July 24, 1969. To that union, four lovely daughters and one adopted daughter was raised with love.
In 1989, he was saved, baptized and shortly after accepted his calling to ministry at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Galveston, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Willie Barnes. Odis attended seminary in Baytown, Texas and was later ordained to preach the gospel. Apostle Young established Jesus Christ True Disciples Ministry in 1993, which was later renamed Jesus Christ True Disciples Healing Church. He dedicated his ministry to counseling and feeding those in need.
On July 23, 2019 a good shepherd went home to be with the Lord declaring, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Virginia Young Dinet, Bertha Young Hennix, Leola Young Miles, and his brother, Johnnie Lee Young, Jr.
His life memories will be cherished by his dedicated wife of 50 years, Sandra Young. His children, who were his pride and joy, Treka Young-Mitchell (Jeffery), Kendra Lindsey (Tony), Tamela Saldana, Angela Vaughn (Ray), Trevor Young, Sonia Mason, Tonia Mason, Alexis Jolivet, and his only son, Otis Robinson (Janelle). His siblings, Florence Samuels, Essie Jewel Skinner (Calvin), Dorothy Robinson (Pee Wee), Debra Alexander and Alford Young. The heartbeats in his life, his grandchildren, Bryan Mitchell, Xavier Mitchel (Alexis), Kalon Mitchell, Payton Etheridge (Trevis), Asia Lindsey, Joshua Lindsey, Landon Godsey, Kennedy Godsey, Lindsey Vaughn, Logan Vaughn, Lyric Vaughn, Trinity Arthur-French, London Robinson, Paris Robinson, Romelo Robinson, JeMarques Jefferson, Jordan Sanders, Janaya Sanders, JaQuan Ray, Diamond Mason, Sharonda Seamster, Adrian Johnson, Jr. and Casey Chamber, II ; his great grandchildren, Jerrielle, Derrick, Zaiden, Brielle, Kaiden, Honor, Reign, Trevis III, Camille, Javarion, Jevon, Jarrell, Tridon, Eric, Daniel and Daizy. His devoted friends, Bishop Frank Hatton and Bishop Andrew James; several loving brothers and sisters in law, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his sons and daughters in the Ministry.
A visitation will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 9:00 am followed by a homegoing service at 11:00 am. Both events will take place at Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church, located at 6333 Highway 6 in Hitchcock, Texas 77563.
