On May 26, 1982, a beautiful baby girl entered earth’s realm through Lloyd P. Sowell, Jr. and Lula M. Sowell. This passionate and adventurous soul would be named Yolanda Elizabeth Sowell. She was the baby of the family and the only girl. She was nurtured and loved by her family; who instilled core values of treating people like you would want to be treated and with God nothing shall be impossible.
Yolanda had a delightful and jovial persona which endeared her to many friends throughout her life. She was educated in the La Marque Independent School District, completing her secondary education at La Marque High School. Where she left her mark through the Cougarettes and Choir. She was multi-talented and broadened her next level of education with several certifications including cosmetology, nurse’s aide and phlebotomy. Having equipped herself with the tools necessary to enter the work arena. She worked several jobs throughout the years using her certifications. She used her leadership skills to propel her into a manager’s position at the all-American restaurant, McDonald’s.
Yolanda gave her life to Christ at an early age under the guidance of Pastor Marvin C. Bridges and was baptized at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Youth Department, GA Girls, the Elite Marching Saints Drill Team and choir. As an adult she united with New Vision Church in Dickinson under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Clint Yancy, Sr where she used her harmonious voice to sing Zion’s songs in the choir. Her melodious voice could calm the roughest storm and soothe the toughest soul. Singing brought joy into her life, she was part of Operation Save the Youth, the Marcus Truscott Summer Youth Explosion and Psalms 100 choirs. Her brilliant smile could light up an entire football stadium. She was bold and spontaneous, a true friend in every sense of the word offering judgement free encouragement. Her sweet voice and loveable laughter will be greater missed by all who lives she touched.
