Charles (Chuck) Thomas Myers of Galveston, Texas passed away April 16, 2020 at the age of 88 at the HCA Houston Healthcare Center in Webster, Texas. Chuck was born on February 1, 1932 in Watertown, South Dakota to Stanley and Erminia (Schepker) Myers. He graduated from Watertown High School and received a scholarship to attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls where he was an All-State/All Conference football star. September 1954 Chuck joined the United States Army, and was assigned to the Army Band Unit. He was deployed to France, Italy, England, and in 1956 was in Monte-Carlo when Grace Kelly married Prince Rainer. After honorably discharged from the US Army, Chuck returned to South Dakota where he was a high school Government teacher from 1957 to 1958. In 1958 he moved to Houston, Texas and went into the insurance industry. Chuck remained in the insurance industry until 1992, retiring to his farm in Toronto, SD, enjoying the warm Summer months, and Galveston, Texas in the Winters. Chuck enjoyed his parents coming to live with him in Texas during the winters. Chuck was artistic and enjoyed drawing, and over the years drew and enhanced many cartoons, giving them away to children, signing his name “Moose”, to the drawings, a nickname given him when he played football in college. Chuck was also very musically gifted, learning to play the accordion, piano/keyboard, ukulele, banjo, guitar, bass violin, saxophone and clarinet, and enjoyed sharing his musical talents with groups of people. Chuck is survived by many cousins and friends, and his step-son Barry (Erin) Davis of The Woodlands, Texas. Special gratitude to his dear friend and caregiver, Mark Zielinski of LaMarque, Texas for the love and care he gave “Moose”, especially over the last two years of his life to the end. Carnes Funeral Home of Texas City, Texas was in charge of arrangements.
