Clarene D. Brown Richard

On September 30, 1940, a beautiful baby girl was born to Slyvester Diggs and Myrtle Callis and was given the name Clarene Diggs.  Clarene grew up in Jackson County, a small town named Edna, Texas.  She was the 1st born child.  Clarene was delighted in being the “big sister” to her younger sibling.  Clarene dedicated her life to Christ at an early age.  She was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna, Texas.  She was educated in the public schools of Edna ISD.  Clarene was known for her dancing moves on the football field as a majorette.  Clarene received a certificate as a Certified Nurse’s Aide, but also worked with the LaMarque ISD in the Food and Nutrition Department for many years and also with the Custodial Department at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

She delighted in being a wonderful wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.  But even in the joy of serving God, Clarene found this little wooden church house on main street in LaMarque, Texas called Neighborhood Missionary Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Joseph E. Franklin where she placed her membership.  Clarene worked faithfully with the Usher Board Ministry, Ministers & Deacons Wives or wherever she was needed.  Clarene knew the power of prayer, even though facing health challenges, she remained steadfast and unmovable with her commitment to Christ, family and friends.

We all prayed that God would heal her on this side, yet on August 29, 2020 she gained her wings.  God granted her total healing as he called her unto himself.  Waiting in Heaven to greet her as she made her arrival were her daughter, Dechelle Ray; grand child Eboni Barnes; 2 great grand babies, Keion Markees, Alfred Brown, Saul Richard; Father, Sylvester Diggs; grandmother Anita Bryant Callis, Twyla Diggs and many others.

As Clarene ascends to her eternal home, she will be dearly missed by her family; her children, Barbara Ruben (Albert), Brenda Sengeal, Beverly, Henry, Cheryl Mason (Andrew), Tammy Bryant; 15 grandchildren, Chalina, Brandon,Anitra, Lakeshia, Shown, Ashley, Albert, Jr., Rena, Stephanie, Gregory, Darrly, Willie, Kenneth, Jr., Derrick and Kim; 32 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; mother, Myrtle Robinson; 2 brothers, Lawrence Callis, Slyvester Diggs, Jr.; sisters Mrytha Diggs, Cartie Diggs and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and endearing friends.  Special thanks to her cousin Pauline Callis and friends, Jackie Ardie and Alfreda Harris.
