John Howard Doty, Jr. Life Tribute

John Howard Doty, Jr. passed peacefully from this life on December 13, 2020, at home in the presence of his beloved wife of forty-eight years, Nellie Thibodeaux Doty. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Howard, Sr. and Estella Hill Doty.
A long-time Catholic, John was baptized at St. Peter Catholic Church and grew up in St. Anthony Catholic Church, both in Dallas, Texas. After moving to Houston, he joined St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church, where he was very active with the Knights of Peter Claver, the Men’s Choir, and Manna House Food Pantry. He was the consummate volunteer, always willing to lend a hand whether in coordinating community and church activities.
John graduated from Lincoln High School (class of 1963) and Huston-Tillotson College. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Air Force. Most of his career was spent with various agencies within the State of Texas.
John is survived by his wife Nellie, and sons Paul (Jacquelyn) Doty and James (Candice) Doty all of Houston, Texas, and cherished grandchildren Madyson, Myles, Jadon, & Nazsir and daughters of the heart Andrea (Jimmy) Oliver and Jacqueline Shelby. He also leaves to mourn his death sisters Leslie Hollingsworth and Eleanor Doty, both of Port St. Lucie, Florida, as well as a close-knit extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

A Celebration of his Life – Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, 11:00am at St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church, 3006 Rosedale, Houston TX 77004
A Rosary will be led by the Knights of Peter Claver at 10:30am
Committal Service at Houston National Cemetery, Houston, TX to follow at 2:15 pm (gate time)
