Joel Alaniz Soliz, Sr., 69 was called home on Saturday, June 12, 2021, from his son’s home in Pearland, Texas. He was born in San Diego, Texas on July 14, 1951, in his maternal grandmother’s home, delivered by the doctors’ nurse (midwife). Joel was the second boy of five children born to his father, Guadalupe Soliz and the fifth boy of eight children born to his mother, Dominga Alaniz. He spent the first 10 years of his childhood in Freer, Texas until the family moved to Houston, Texas in 1961. He served honorably in the Army from 1971 to 1973.
Joel is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Dominga Soliz; brothers, Guadalupe Soliz Jr. and Juan Hector Soliz; nephew, Michael Flynn Jr. and niece, Lisa Marie Soliz. He is survived by his sons, Joel Soliz Jr. of Hitchcock, Texas and Lucas Soliz of Pearland, Texas; three brothers, Ruben Esparza of Alvin, Texas, Jose Oscar Esparza (Joe) of Katy, Texas and Lilialdo (Nhieu) Esparza of Katy, Texas; two sisters, Maria Sutton and husband Bobby of League City, Texas and Belinda Hill and husband Brandon of Texas City, Texas; 6 nephews and 5 nieces.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 9:30am to 11:00am in the Chapel of Bay Area Funeral Directors, 5410 FM 1765 (facing HWY 3), Texas City, TX 77591. The Graveside Service will follow at 2:15pm at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.
