William Garner, Jr.

William Garner, Jr., also known as “Percy”, died Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Mainland Hospital.  He was the husband of Helen Garner and they spent 47 years together.  He was born in Monroe, Louisiana to Mary Colman and William Garner, Sr.  He attended Parish School district and worked as a machinist.

William attended Mt. Paran Missionary Baptist Church.  He will be remembered for his jokes, personality and most of all his laugh.

William is survived by his ex-wife, Helen Garner; a very special friend, Georgia Lewis; two daughters, Maryann Wells and Neeka Garner; siblings, Pearlie Rush (Joe), Timothy of San Antonio, Texas, Micheal, Paulette (Stanley), Gregory, Patricia (Micheal) and Brenda, all of New Orleans; godsister, Brenda Jones of Monroe and three grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Hazel, Lugene, Jeanette and Carolyn along with nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for William will be held at the chapel of Bay Area Funeral Directors, 5410 FM 1765 (facing Highway 3) in Texas City, Texas 77591.  A public visitation will take place at 10:00 am followed by the celebration of his life at 12:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home.  409-933-4300.

Percy was such a good person to meet. I really enjoyed being around him and his friend, Georgia Mae. He will be truly missed by many. R I H.
