Daryl Ray Block, Sr., was born on August 11, 1973 to James and Leola Block in Galveston, Texas. Daryl loved his family. He had a passionate love for music. Daryl had a strong work ethic and it was on display for twenty-two years as he worked for Galveston County, Road and Bridge. He was currently serving as a supervisor at the time of his death.
Daryl attended La Marque High School where he met and fell in love with Quintina Kelley and on July 3, 1997 they were united in marriage. This union was blessed with a handsome baby boy, Daryl Jr. “DJ” and a beautiful baby girl Queasia. Daryl was a great provider, a wonderful father and a great husband. He never met a stranger and he would always do things to make others laugh. He will be tremendously missed.
On Sunday, August 15, 2021 at the young age of 48, Daryl Ray Block fell asleep in death. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and other family members. Daryl leaves to cherish all good memories with his beloved wife of 24 years, Quintina Block; his legacy of love, one son, Daryl Ray Block, Jr. (Abrina); one daughter, Queasia Shanell Block; an extended daughter, Riley Sparks; his loving parents, James and Leola Block; two brothers, James Block, Jr. (Cora), and Kirvin Block (Shonta’) and one sister, Christina Birdwell.
He also played the role of a brother to Eric Reed (Mocha) and John Jones. He was raised alongside his cousins, Valencia Temple (Jerald) and Kerry Siverand (Shonette). He is also survived by his in-laws, Dolly and Dorothy Hughes; sister-in-law, Kathey Kelley; brothers-in-law, Metoyer Hughes, Daniel Kelley (Florence) and Dolly Hughes, III and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Daryl will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021. A public visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of his life at 11:00 a.m. Both events will take place at the chapel of Bay Area Funeral Directors, 5410 FM 1765 (facing Highway 3) in Texas City, Texas 77591. 409-933-4300. Interment will follow the life celebration at Rising Star Cemetery, Albert Street in La Marque.
