Reverend Ulice C. Callis 1922-2011 Reverend Ulice C. Callis answered the call of his Lord and Savior to rest on October 7, 2011. He was born to the proud parents Ollie and Vangie Callis on November 7, 1922 in Jackson County, TX. Rev. Callis moved to Texas City early in life where he was dedicated to the Gospel of Christ and also singing in the choir. He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Galveston, TX. He attended Conroe Normal and Industrial College in Conroe, Texas, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Theology. Rev. Callis received his calling to the Ministry in 1969 and was a member of the Southern District. Rev. Callis served as pastor of Bailey Prairie Baptist Church and later became Associated Minister of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Ashwood, TX. The last years of his life was spent with his daughter and son in law in Fort Worth, TX. After a decline in health, he lived at Benbrook Nursing Home. While there he was often heard praising and singing the word of God. Rev. Callis was preceded in death by his mother and father Ollie and Vangie Callis, two sons Ulice Callis, Jr. and Andrew Callis, Sr.; brothers, Alvin Callis, Sr., Andrew Callis, Sr., Johnny Callis, Cleo Callis, and one sister Olean Callis Boston. Margarita Marquez 1930-2011 Margarita Marquez, 81, of Texas City, passed away Monday, September 19, 2011. She was born June 13, 1930, in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico. Margarita was a longtime resident of Texas City. She enjoyed reading, crafting, cooking, and shopping. Margarita was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Maria De Jesus Mercado, her husband of 52 years, Jose Marquez, brothers Miguel Jr. and Alfonso Mercado. Mrs. Marquez is survived by her daughters, Maria De Jesus Gongora, Blanca (Fernando) Gallo, Josefina (Jaime) Silva, Rosa (Ramon) Martinez, and Leticia (Fernando) Garcia. Mrs. Marquez is also survived by her sons, Armando (Maria Guadalupe) Marquez and Miguel (Rosaura) Marquez, sister, Clementina Pedraza, 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends. Raul Rincon 1932-2011 Raul Rincon, 79, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Cornerstone Hospital in Webster, Texas. Raul was born on Galveston Island, January 10, 1932. For many years he worked for Moody Compress and Texas Star Bakery in Galveston. He resided in Hitchcock until his health failed, he then moved to Laurel Court Nursing Home inAlvin. Raul is preceded in death by his parents, Esther Salinas Rincon and Ramon Morales Rincon, Sr., brother and sister Miguel Rincon and Angelina Rincon. He leaves behind many wonderful memories with his sisters and brothers, Maria Paz DeLosSantos, Nasaria "Sarah" Rincon, Amelia Torres and husband, Raymundo, Ramon Rincon, Jr. and wife, Jodi, Robert Rincon and wife, Nicole, Esther Rincon Castro and husband, Sergio and Frank Rincon, special friend, Marie Guzman. Beula Mae Downey 1929-2011 Beula Mae Downey was born June 28, 1929 in Navasota, TX, to Mr. Amos Allen and Mrs. Pearlee Maxey Allen. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband John Downey, 8 Brothers, 3 Sisters and one daughter-in-law Debbie Downey. David Bourgeois, Sr. "Biggie", "Mix" 1940-2011 David "Biggie", "Mix" Bourgeois, Sr. went to live with his Lord and Savior on May 5, 2011 at Clear Lake Regional Hospital. David was born on April 11, 1940 to Mr. and Mrs. Namon Bourgeois, Sr. in Jeanerette, Louisiana. "Mix" was the fifth child to this union. He was baptized at Bell Zion Baptist Church and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958. David was a hard worker as a laborer with Local 154 and was a life long La Marque Cougar fan. His passion was fishing and cooking. He also was a dedicated Crossing Guard for La Marque ISD. David had a talent for repairing lawnmowers which earned him the nickname "The Lawnmower Man." He was also known as "Mix", "The Peanut Man", and "The BBQ Man" (for the La Marque Tigers. He was a faithful member of Living Word Baptist Church, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a wonderful and committed husband to the love of his life Debra. Michael Anthony Venters 1982-2011 Michael Anthony Venters, 28, departed this life March 28, 2011. Michael was born June 3, 1982 to Darlene Venters Johnson and Michael Anthony Johnson. Michael attended La Marque High School and worked as a labor with various construction companies. He joined Westerd Street Church of Crist at an early age. Michael loved to fish and spend time with family and friends. Lino Mendez 1935-2011 Lino Mendez Donjuan was born September 23, 1935 in San Luis Potoci, Mexico and was a lifelong resident of Texas City, Texas and Boise, Idaho. He retired from farming and ranching in Idaho. Lino passed away on March 27, 2011 at Mainland Center Hospital in Texas City, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, Feliz and Florentina Mendez. His is survived by his four brothers and four sisters in Mexico; his wife, Maria C. Mendez, Texas City, Texas; sons, Santos (Guadalupe) Mendez and Martin (Juanita) Mendez of Idaho, Julio (Manuela) Mendez of Oregon, Lino Mendez and Rafael Mendez of Texas City, Texas; daughters, Carmen (Juan Pablo) Pesina, and Adolfa (Oscar) Sandoval of Idaho, Consuelo (Javier) Marquez and San Juana (Jorge) Belgar of Oregon and Evelia Mendez of Texas City, Texas; 21 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Felton Robinson, Sr. 1917-2011 We have lost our wonderful, generous, loving and kind father, brother, grandfather and friend. Felton Robinson, Sr. passed from this life on Friday, March 11, 2011 with his loved ones at his side. Felton was born October 28, 1917 in Washington, Louisiana to the union of Henry and Tennie Robinson. Burial will follow at Rising Star Cemetery in La Marque, Texas. Morsciel Davis Bradic 1923-2011 Morsciel Davis Bradic took her final journey Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from Webster, Texas. She was born September 9, 1923 in Trinity, TX to Seather Yarbrough Davis and Morris Davis, Sr. She was married to Thomas Bradic, Jr., who preceded her in death along with her parents; her mother in law, Alma Bradic Mosley; three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her children, Travis Whitfield, Joyce Bradic Jefferson, and JoAnn Bradic Aldridge; her grand children, Donald E. Harris, Jeffery Aldridge, and Regina Aldridge Stewart; 7 great grand children Donald Rashad Harris, Latricia Gary, Kristen Aldridge, Kailen Aldridge, Jordan Aldridge, Deon Stewart, and Devin Stewart; and 1 great, great grandchild Keion Gary-Williams and a host of other relatives and friends. Felix aSkeeter' Allen 1936-2011 Felix aSkeeter' Allen, 74, of La Marque, passed away at his residence March 6, 2011. Felix was born July 1, 1936 in Galveston, Texas. He was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1954 and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he received an honorable discharge. Felix retired as an operator from Amoco Chemicals. Felix is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Frankie Washington, and sister, Ruby Ewing. He is survived by his children, Felix L. (Sean) Allen, II, of La Marque, Texas; Michael Allen (Sheron) of Seabrook, Texas; Darren T. Allen of La Marque, Texas; sisters Sybil Washington and Julia Williams, both of California; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Felix Jenkins 1953-2011 Felix Jenkins was a resident of Texas City, Texas until his transition welcomed him into eternal rest on February 28, 2011, at his residence. Alice and Merland Jenkins, Sr. were blessed with their third child, Felix Jenkins, on July 14, 1953. Felix was born in Galveston County, where he was also reared and attended La Marque Independent School District. Felix was a loving brother, uncle, friend and father. Felix was also a Laborer during his years of being in the workforce. Felix didn't meet any strangers. If you were a "true friend" of Felix's, it was as if he was one of your own. If Felix knew you, and you needed help, you could count on him. DARRYEONA THOMPSON 1998-2011 DARRYEONA CHAMIECE THOMPSON was born on November 17, 1998 to James III and Delores Robert Thompson at The University of Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She was a beautiful child that was loved by all her family and friends. She attended Roosevelt Wilson and Northside Elementary school in Texas City, Texas. She also attended Owens Intermediate School until her health began to fell. Darryeona was a very intelligent and extraordinary child. She was baptized on March 7, 2007 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where she was an active member and participated in the GMBC youth ministry. Darryeona was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Wilbert and Victorine Robert, paternal grandmother Bennie Mae Thompson. Sallie Mae Harris Walker 1946-2011 Sallie was born and raised in Arcadia, Louisiana. At the age of 12, she moved with her mother to Texas City, TX. A few years later she met two people that would be in her life always her beloved husband , Jesse Walker and her lifelong best friend Betty Davis . Sallie was born and raised in Arcadia, Louisiana. Besides her home-making duties, she worked as a nurse's assistant and childcare provider. Sallie was always available to her family and friends with a kind ear, sage advice and a shoulder to lean on. She leaves a legacy of love in the hearts of her family and friends. Sallie will join her mother Lula Harris, son Robert Walker and brothers Lee and Cleo Harris in heaven. Seven great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends. Jessie Stevens Sr. 1927-2011 Jessie Stevens Sr. was the oldest son of the late Andrew and Mary Jane Stevens. He was born March 16, 1927 in Opelousas, Louisiana. Jessie received his education through the Louisiana School System. He was a World War II veteran and a faithful employee with the Southern Union Oil & Gas Co. After 18 years as a meter reader and custodian with Southern Union Jessie retired to be with his family. On December 15, 1946, Jessie married his sweet heart the late Inez Williams Stevens and for 64 years they were devoted to each other. They were the proud parents of seven girls and two boys. Jessie was known for his quiet spirit and ever pleasant smile. He loved his wife Inez and they were inseparable. Jessie is preceded by his wife Inez Stevens; sons, James and Jessie Stevens Jr.; father and mother; sisters, Felma Woodson, Rose Kelly; brothers, Golaith Stevens, Roshal Stevens, Andrew Stevens, Jr.; son-in-law, Charles Johnson. On Wednesday, January 19, 2011 Jessie transitioned to be with the Lord. Cutris Ray Ervin "Quick Curt" 1958-2011 Curtis was born on June 19, 1958 to Correnson & Willie Mae Ervin. Curtis was a graduate of Hitchcock High School in 1976, were he excelled in sports. Curtis served in the US military after high school. He then began his work as a machinist and continued that trade through out life journey. Curtis is preceded in death by his parents Correnson & Willie Mae Ervin. Curtis is survived by his loving wife of 2 years Sandra Ervin, Daughter Curnisha Ervin, Sister Mary Bernard, 3 Step Children Michael, Larry & Destinee and a host of Special Friends. Josie (Wisby) Torry 1934-2011 A true Queen of the Nile, the one and only, that Josie (Wisby) Torry, began her journey down the magnificent body of water (life), December 20, 1934 in Atlanta, GA and came into port January 8, 2011 in the Houston Metropolitan Area, where she lived for many years. This queen enjoyed, lived and shared life to the fullest. Her passion for life allowed her to dance, teach and groom children in the ways of becoming a prince or a princess. This eloquent queen of the Nile shared her love with everyone she passed along the river of life. She exploded with energy and beauty and passed her admiration and gratefulness of being to her three beautiful children that were mastered by Ernest Wisby, Jr. of Texas City, Texas. Josie's beauty continues to flourish within Desiree Jo Hicks (Charles), Yotarsha Menyonne (BB) Barker (Michael) and Ernest Eugene Wisby. These lovely jewels adorned Josie's crown with 4 grandchildren: Jarrail Deree' Jackson, Chloe' Christopher Hicks (Christina), Jamiece Mona' Jackson and Yorshina Christie Shanks (Alfred); 8 beautiful great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews in New York City, NY, Hartford, CT Houston, TX and many other ports around the globe.
